Your 17th day's stage on the Moselsteig begins in Ediger-Eller. Above the banks of the Moselle, the hiking trail first runs through promising vineyards and along the edge of peaceful mixed forests. With every step you enjoy the views of the Mosel valley and the surrounding mountain landscape. The trail snakes slowly downhill and leads you at Senheim over a bridge on the other side of the river. If you like, you can take a break here in an inn or café. In Senheim you follow the Moselsteig through wide vineyards to Mesenich. If you have not yet taken a break in Senheim, you will find alternative inns in Mesenich. In Mesenich, the Moselle makes a wide right loop and with a beautiful view of the valley of the trail follows the course of the river. First, it goes through open vineyards leisurely uphill until the Moselsteig leads you into a steep slope forest. This hillside forest is also known as the Briedeler Switzerland. The very steep and rocky slope is densely overgrown, but again and again you can see the water of the Moselle between the trees deep below you. At the end of the narrow hiking trail through the Briedeler Switzerland awaits you the impressive castle ruins Metternich, which is located directly above Beilstein, today's stage stop. Here you can not only enjoy the great view, but also excellent dining in the castle restaurant. From the castle you follow the Moselsteig in some hairpin bends down to Beilstein. As a day hiker, you can take the 716 bus to Senhals from the stage destination Beilstein and then take the 711 bus back to Ediger-Eller. Alternatively, the 716 bus will also take you directly to the Cochem train station if you would like to end your Moselsteig hike here.Timetables are available at vrt-info.de and moseltalbahn.de.
