Today's stage holds some wet highlights ready for you. It goes straight well when you cross the dam Zeulenroda and can enjoy a great view of the large reservoir. Incidentally, the sooner you set off, the more beautiful you are because here you can enjoy the magical light of the rising sun.The second "water highlight" leaves no 30 kilometers to come: the Plothener ponds are really beautiful and have an interesting history. Originally, the many ponds were created to cover the high fishing needs of the monks during the fasting days. If you fancy a little break where you can learn more about the area, take a break at the nearby stilt house. This is in the middle of the house pond and houses a museum.After another 20 kilometers, our route crosses the river Saale, which decisively shapes the landscape in this part of Thuringia. Because here are five dams the so-called Saalekaskade, which repeatedly builds up the river on a section of 80 kilometers - formerly that served the shipping, today the energy and the local recreation.Our tour ends today idyllically right on the banks of the Hohenwarte reservoir, which you have previously followed a piece on the Saale cycle path. If you want to end the stage tour through Thuringia today, you have to go on for around ten kilometers. The nearest train station is in Kaulsdorf, from there you can quickly return to Jena by train.
