This day does not follow the whole of the signposted route of EuroVelo 4. On two occasions I make you take a detour in order to make you discover important places. The first of these detours is the small port town of Barfleur. She is absolutely charming and marks the first forty kilometers of the day. Ideal for a coffee break. You will be able to observe the quiet life of the port. The second detour is at kilometer ninety-two. This is the village of Sainte-Mère-Église marked by a tragedy the night before the Normandy landings. A parachutist drop signal that was actually a house fire was misinterpreted and hundreds of Americans were dropped in the wrong place at the wrong time. The scars of the ensuing battle have been intentionally kept, for example near the church you will see gates distorted by the impact of bullets. You will also pass by Utah Beach, one of the landing beaches. Visiting the museum is recommended.Your stopover for tonight is Carentan. The lunch break can be done in Quettehou halfway.
