Joachim and Sandra 🥾🥾🎒 went for a hike.
July 18, 2021
Our round tour begins at the Rhön Feeling campsite and leads over meadow and forest paths to Lake Schönsee, which was created by a sinkhole. After a little refreshment, we hike along the lake shore and take a steep path up into the forest. We reach the Roßdorfer Tor and the Stoffelskuppe. On the summit, the remainder of a building from the Middle Ages attached to the basalt rock can be seen. The hike finally leads us to the Bernshauser Kutte. The idyllic Erdfallsee has been designated as a nature reserve since 1942 and is a geotope under nature protection.

A nice round trip through an interesting area of the Rhön. Actually, we wanted to stay with the mobile home at the Schönsee campsite. When we got there, the space was quite full and the space specially created for motorhomes was not quite our taste. So we drove a few kilometers to the Hotel Rhön Feeling, where we got a great parking space in an idyllic meadow in absolute peace. In the late afternoon we hike along forest paths to Lake Schönsee and watch the goings-on at the lake with a small snack. The lake is up to 25 m deep and attracts many guests from the area to swim. The steep ascent to the Roßdorfer Tor is quite sweaty in the warmth, and enjoying the blueberries on the way is refreshing. The way to the Stoffelskuppe is completely too grown, so that we often have to make our way through nettles and bushes. We like the basalt rocks at the summit very much, but a former building is difficult to see.The path now leads us to the Bernshauser Kutte, also known as the Green Kutte. The cowl is up to 47 m deep and bathing is officially prohibited due to underground currents. After a short walk through the small path, our campsite is quickly reached and we end the evening with a wonderful sunset and delicious delicacies from the grill.
Very interesting, the Bernshausen cowl ... .. and of course the currywurst with the beer.
Well, a machete would sometimes be helpful in times of vegetation, but that's exactly how we love Mother Nature in summer. Another great tour, on which we were happy to follow you. These wonderful views and idyllic lakes, super beautiful 🤩. A lot of hiking fun and best regards 🤗!
@ Peter and Sigrid: Yes, the sinkhole lakes are really very interesting. We were told that even three of the sinkhole lakes are connected underground and that there are strong currents as a result. Several divers have probably already had fatal accidents in the Bernshausen robe. Nevertheless, it does not prevent swimmers from unauthorized bathing. There were several swimmers in the habit last night.Joachim tasted the currywurst very good and strengthened it for the ascent ... 😉
@Udo and Ulrike: Thanks for your nice comment. We always like it a lot at the Rhön. 👍🌞🥾
Picture 17 is very beautiful from the light point of view It looks as if you are walking towards freedom ’
You did a great round again and we are always waiting impatiently for your super beautiful photos 👍🏻 greetings from both of us 🙋♀️🙋♂️
@Yvonn: Right, the photo really looks like that! 😉 The Rhön always feels like freedom for me, I like the wide view and the hilly landscape.
