The time had come: Today the last relay hike took place for us. After great editions on the Rhine, in the Ruhr area, on the Lower Rhine and all over North Rhine-Westphalia, in which we were always allowed to participate and which were a lot of fun, Jan and all the co-organizers thought a number bigger. Together we hike all over Germany! Madness!
Even if the arrival and departure was a little longer at 2.5 - 3 hours each, the effort was worth it.
We parked at the train station in Eltville at around 10:30 a.m. and took the train on the Rheintrasse to Rüdesheim for 17 minutes. There we took over the baton and hiked up into the vineyards to the St. Hildegard Abbey, named after Hildegard von Bingen. The abbey church is worth seeing, see highlight, and noticeable because it only has two naves. A main nave and a side aisle. We have never seen such an asymmetrical church, at least from the inside.
Then we went to another monastery (Marienthal), which is hidden in a valley. The way here seemed actually closed and was almost impassable and slippery without further ado, but we made it.
Later we took a 30-minute break in the country café Wacholderhof. The waffles are lovely here! 🧇
The last few kilometers to Eltville were so much easier. The sunburn was only noticeable in the evening. 😉😇
By the way, we mostly hiked along the Rheinsteig or the associated feeder paths, the Hildegardweg or the Rheingauer Klostersteig.
The hike is so highly recommended!
Thank you for the very good organization and best wishes to all participants. See you soon in the forest! 🐿️

As you all know, it is currently anything but easy for many people in NRW and RP and any help and donation is welcome. We ourselves got off lightly and are now on our way to Düsseldorf, today to help clean up friends in a flooded settlement in Gerresheim.
Nevertheless, with all the solidarity, it should not be forgotten that there are many other things worth supporting. Therefore, from Krefeld I would like to do a little bit of advertising for MarkusSupertramp. He will soon be hiking the Lechweg and donations for the Friends of Cancer Children in Krefeld.
