Are you looking for a little more challenge, demanding paths and untouched, lonely nature? You will find all of this on this hike that takes you from Gramais to two remote mountain lakes. Surefootedness, sturdy shoes, rainwear and sufficient provisions and drinks are part of the basic equipment here, because you won't find any places to stop along the way.

You start at the village car park in Gramais and follow the signs to the Roßkarsee. You hike along the Roßkarbach into the valley. You will soon have to overcome some scree fields, but the path is still easy to see overall. Some waterfalls rush into the valley and even though you've only just started it feels like civilization is far, far away.

At the end of the valley you can take a break before you start the steep ascent to the Roßkarsee. The view of the green glowing water, in which the mountains are reflected, makes up for every effort. From there, the hiking trail leads you a bit uphill and over the Heinzensprossensteig. Surefootedness is required here, because you hike over a rocky ridge and on both sides it goes down.

Soon afterwards the path to the Schafkarsee branches off to the left. Embedded in a small basin below the Großer Schafkarspitze, the crystal-clear mountain lake invites you to take a long break. You then hike downhill again over the Hirschleskopf and back to Gramais.
