The driving connection was great, the RE66 drives from Gesundbrunnen directly to Szczecin-Glowny and back again. We reach Szczecin around 9.55 a.m. and first walk along the Oder to the old railway bridge. At first I had planned to visit a few highlights of the city. First of all, it is a little uphill to the former main post office and a remnant of the old fortifications. Crossing the expressway, we then reach the Jakobskirche, the city's archbishop's cathedral. After a short visit to the church, we continue to the castle of the Pomeranian dukes. This is a fortress-like castle complex with two inner courtyards, the castle itself is kept entirely in white. A stage has been set up in the large courtyard, where cinema screenings are also given in summer.Via the main thoroughfare of Szczecin we then reach the Columbus restaurant high above the Oder. From here you have a view of the quayside and the harbor with its amusement park. But more on that later. Next door is the nautical school and next to it the national museum above the so-called hook terrace. Here we descend to Oderstraße and walk a bit next to the busy street, and then climb back up to the Stefan-Zeromski-Park, a large city park.Next to the park is the Russian Orthodox Church in modern concrete architecture. And on to the city's shopping mile. After a short visit to a trendy shopping center, which we quickly left, we now continue towards the old town. We reach it at Grunwaldplatz and decide to simply drift along in Komoot, regardless of the planning. In front of a tea shop with a café, we enjoy a piece of cake and coffee / tea. In a small shopping center we visit a hairdresser, where Detlev was heavily defrauded. Twenty euros for a machine cut and a beard cut seemed a bit high to us.Since we had decided to stop at the Columbus restaurant, we are now heading towards the Oder and briefly visit the actual old town of Szczecin around the Heumarkt. Here is an absolute tourist area, today on Friday a bit more moderate. Here you can find one restaurant next to the other. The old buildings have been lovingly restored, which gives the whole thing a great setting. Otherwise you should avoid this area at the weekend. Now we climb back up to the Columbus restaurant, where we can enjoy tagliatelle and Pilsener Urquell. We are sitting directly above the Oder, as already mentioned above, with a view of the Oder, the main street and the harbor. At least acoustically, it is anything but idyllic. But the food here is very good and relatively inexpensive. You can pay in euros or in zloty, also with an EC or credit card. After dinner we walk along the Oder to the train station, where we arrive very early. A magnum doesn't help us much to bridge the waiting time. At around 5:09 p.m. the RE66 drives us back to Berlin.Anyone who loves city walks should definitely visit Szczecin. It was a very interesting tour through a historically burdened city. Some of the buildings are still run down, but about half of the buildings have been beautifully restored. The weather was very changeable, but dry, around 22 to 25 degrees.
Exciting city, Heiner. With me it was already on the tray in front of Korinna, precisely because the arrival and departure seems so uncomplicated. Thanks for the insights.

At the beginning of the 90s I came to Szczecin on a bus tour to Masuria. Everything looked very different. I don't recognize anything. So you can do it well as a day tour 😊. Tagliatelle ??Wasn't there an attractive Polish dish?I remember a wonderful soup that was served in a small bread. I always wanted to cook again.
20 euros for the hairdresser ???Well, you 2 travelers, you always ask for the price beforehand 🤣Can also be explored in Polish with the translater on your smartphone.
@Lutz - Berlin: The journey from Gesundbrunnen takes about two hours, as the RE66 drives through from Gesundbrunnen to Szczecin-Glowny.

@ Gabriele Krüger: Yes, Szczecin looks completely different today than it did back then. It was my first time in town. I once changed here with a friend on the way to Swinoujscie. Sure you could have looked for a Polish dish, but we liked the place and it was more Italian.
Afterwards made a great tour through the old town of Szczecin, including great text as well Photo documentation !! - Szczecin is very versatile; University town, revamped, run down, etc. ... Definitely worth seeing & visiting 🤠👋P.S. the woods here are absolutely recommendable! 👍
