deuter planned a hike.

More than 20 kilometers of lovely walks through the stream valley of the Drentsche Aa, declared one of the most beautiful landscapes in the Netherlands. This is possible with this route northeast of Assen. The starting point of the walk is in Anloo, accessible by bus from Assen. It is easier to park the car in the parking lot at the Koningsherberg, a nice place to relax with a snack or drink afterwards. But not before you've taken a beautiful walk. You start in the farmland around Anloo, but you soon walk into forest and heath. After a kilometer or two you come across a typical Drenthe phenomenon: a hunebed. You regularly encounter these stone age graves in this landscape. A little further on you can see it: the Drentsche Aa. Although the name here is still officially Schipborgsche Diep. Fun fact: the stream valley is called Drentsche Aa here, but the stream itself has very local names. Only in Groningen is the meandering stream called the Drentsche Aa. The wet and swampy area is full of plant and animal life. So enjoy nature as you walk through the swampy land. When you are at windmill De Zwaluw, you are well over halfway through this walk. You cross the stream again and set course towards the end point. A few kilometers away you will see the Magnus Church from the 11th century, perhaps the most beautiful church in the Netherlands. That means that you are almost back in Anloo and have covered 20 kilometers.
