The Fischhaus restaurant in the Radeberger Vorstadt is the starting point for this beautiful hike into the Dresden Heath. It goes straight into the forest and you walk in a large arc to the sister spring above the Weißer Hirsch district. Here and in the neighboring Degele spring you can imitate the residents of the Weißer Hirsch, who fetch fresh water with bottles and thermos flasks in the morning and refill your drinking bottle. The water is good, as the district forester reports, and is checked annually. At the edge of the Dresdner Heide you now hike on to the Napoleonschanze. It is located on one of the cliffs that have formed on the edge of the Dresdner Heide and offers you a very good view over the Mordgrundbrücke quarry into the Elbe Valley. Just a stone's throw away you will meet Chiron, the Centaur from ancient mythology. The great affinity of the Saxon princes and their builders during the Renaissance and Baroque periods brought the ancient models to a new bloom. Palaces, parks and facades were richly decorated with the now fashionable mythical creatures, and finally in 1902 the philanthropic Centaur Chiron was set up at this point, in the immediate vicinity of the Weißer Hirsch spa gardens and the Lahmann sanatorium, in order to represent a reference to nature and healing. Then it goes back into the forest to Wolf Hill with the ruins of a former observation tower. Today only the base of the 25-meter-high observation tower with two exposed staircases remains here. At that time it was made of reinforced concrete, comparable to today's reinforced concrete. It is hard to imagine that the materials were transported by horse to the construction site in the middle of the forest on a specially constructed 450 meter long field railway.Soon you will reach the starting point again and if you like, you take the opportunity and visit the historic fish house. There you can continue the beautiful hike and let yourself be pampered by the guests.
