Where centuries ago shepherds covered long distances with their oxen, today you cycle through a wonderful landscape in a relaxed manner. The Oxenweg connected the Hungarian Puszta with Augsburg for 600 kilometers; on this tour you will discover a particularly beautiful section. Information boards placed along the way provide you with a lot of background information on cattle drive. The Altbaierische Oxenweg starts at Hohenkammer Castle. The next train station is only four kilometers away in Petershausen. From the stately castle on the Glonn, you go up to a vantage point right at the beginning, from which you can enjoy a wide view. Following the Glonn, you drive past the Weichser Moos to Markt Indersdorf with its impressive monastery. After a short stop at the monastery, the Oxenweg leads you in a steady up and down through an extensive landscape. After 30 kilometers, Altomünster invites you to take a break at the market square before you reach the Ecknach valley. At Adelzhausen you cross under the A8 and then drive further west. You cross the Landmannsdorfer Forest and will soon reach Friedberg. With a view of the Wittelsbach Castle, you cycle through the center and can make a stop at the beautiful Ara lakes on the southern outskirts. Refreshed, you continue past the Kuhsee to the Lech, which you cross on the Hochablass. It follows a shady piece through the Siebentischwald and past the Augsburg Zoo you continue to the Rathausplatz, your destination. You can find connection to the train network just a few minutes' drive away at Augsburg main station.
