The Maratona dles Dolomites is one of the most popular races for everyone in the Alps. Since 1987 the event has been held annually on the first Sunday in July. The event is limited to 9,000 athletes. At first it sounds like a hell of a lot of race participants, considering the demanding, unsteady and narrow route. The truth is that the registration is even regulated via a pre-registration procedure with subsequent raffle of the starting numbers, as the number of pre-registrations regularly exceeds the maximum number of participants by two to three times. Clearly - the track has to be awesome. There are three route lengths to choose from, the long distance being 138 kilometers and 4,230 meters in altitude. The short Dolomitenmarthon corresponds to the Sellaronda route (komoot.it/tour/352112258) with 55 kilometers and 1,780 meters of altitude. We recommend the golden mean with 106 kilometers and 3,130 meters of altitude, to which the journey from our starting point at the Bike Hotel Croce Bianca in Canazei is added. The route takes you to seven of the most impressive road passes in the Alps. On the way you can expect fascinating panoramic views of the spectacular mountains of the Dolomites, challenging climbs and breathtaking descents. If you haven't planned to push your limits, then enjoy the tour by also taking advantage of the wonderful opportunities for breaks that are available at the passes and along the route. Some of the crossings have historical significance and were built as military roads. Numerous traces from the past, such as at Passo Valparola and Passo Falzarego, still bear witness to the senselessness and cruelty of the First World War.You do most of the vertical meters on the first pass of the day, the Sella Pass. You cross the Campolongo pass twice from Corvara to Arabba. The first time it goes downhill to Pieve Livinallongo, to finally crank up to Passo Falzarego. The second time, the Cima Coppi of your tour with the 2,241 meter high Passo Pordoi awaits you at the end of the day. Then you can enjoy the rapid descent with twelve kilometers and 800 meters of altitude to the front door of the Bike Hotel Croce Bianca, before the well-deserved wellness program awaits you.You can find more information about the Maratona dles Dolomites / Dolomitenmarathon here: maratona.it/de
