When you think of cycling in South Limburg, you think of Valkenburg, Eys and Vijlen. And when you mention these places, you quickly think of legendary climbs and our own Dutch classic, the Amstel Gold Race. What you probably don't think about is Beekdaelen. Many cars on their way to the south for a cycling weekend in Limburg pass this brand-new merged municipality. And that is a shame, because the Beekdaelen area is wide and quiet. You will not find any cities there. The landscape consists of fields, groups of trees, graves, hills and hollow roads. The height differences in this region are not great, which makes this area suitable for many cycling levels. But don't expect an easy ride as there is relief here too. The area is home to countless short calf bites and you will encounter them in this route that departs a stone's throw from Valkenburg. The route through Beekdaelen is full of bumps, eight of which may have a name in total. From the start in Hulsberg, it does not take long before you have to face the first climb. As soon as you pass the characteristic farm "het spekhuis" of Vink, you start with the first vertical meters in the course. The climbs that follow are all short climbs on low-traffic roads. Especially the unknown Boompjesweg in Oirsbeek is a filthy calf-biter! After passing the Lady Chapel at the bottom of the climb (where you can quickly do a Hail Mary), it becomes quite steep. With gradients that are more than double digits, this is the time to get on the pedals. With a length of 56 kilometers and more than five hundred vertical meters, this route is one with spice. The variety of the wide landscape, hamlets and sunken roads will not bore you for a moment on the bike. And if you still want to click out of the pedals, there are plenty of places for that always welcome coffee with flan. The start of the route is at indoor BMX bike park Zone 10. There is ample opportunity to park for free.
