From the Bike Hotel Croce Bianca in Canazei, the route begins in a wonderfully relaxed manner. For the first 35 kilometers you follow the valley course of the Val di Fassa into the Val di Fiemme to Tesero, between Predazzo and Cavalese. The route is characterized by side roads, the brand new, perfectly paved Dolomites cycle path and passages on the country road. On the way you have a great view of the surrounding Dolomite peaks, while the 190 meters of altitude are compared to about 670 meters of depth. The relationship changes abruptly on the pass road to the Lavazejoch.

Now it goes steadily upwards for about eleven kilometers. At the end of the driveway you have collected about 900 meters in altitude. The route is off the usual traffic routes and is therefore relatively quiet. Through forests, small villages and over open pastures you crank to the top of the pass. Admittedly, the hill is not an extraordinary beauty, but there is an opportunity for a short detour to the Jochgrimm. The pass is located between the peaks of Weißhorn and Schwarzhorn and is an attractive transition for gravel bikers towards Val di Fiemme, Truden or Etschtal. In winter, the area is a winter sports region and, with its great trails, is particularly popular with cross-country skiers. For pure racing cyclists, the pass is the terminus at 1,989 meters. Here is a nice stop in the mountain inn and the panoramic view of the main Alpine ridge is fantastic.

From the Lavazejoch, where the border between the provinces of South Tyrol and Trento is located, you roll more than 900 meters in altitude and twelve kilometers down to Birchabruck on the finest asphalt. There the road branches off to Welschnofen and further up to the village of Karersee and the Karerpass. If you still have good legs, we recommend another short detour: From Birchabruck you roll a little further down the valley to the next roundabout. There you leave the main road and crank up the eleven serpentines on a quiet and picturesque mountain road to Gummer and finally on the narrow high road to Welschnofen. This detour will cost you about eight kilometers and 260 vertical meters more.

After about 650 meters of altitude you will reach the Karersee. After the heavy autumn storm of 2018, here was a picture of the devastation at one of the most photogenic hotspots in the Dolomites to date, which you can find right on the road. In the meantime, the uprooted and broken trees have been cleared and fresh, new green is sprouting from the ground. The crystal clear mountain lake, in which the towers of the Latemar are reflected, has lost none of its magical impression. Confused by the parking situation at the visitor center and impressed by the impressive backdrop of the lake, you should be particularly attentive here. Also because numerous road users - on foot, on a motorcycle or in the car - can be distracted from the actual traffic.

From Karersee to the top of the pass at 1,752 meters, you are still missing 220 meters in altitude. The descent is not very steep and you can let it roll nicely. The view of the valley is super beautiful and at the end of the Val di Fassa you can already see the well-known Dolomite peaks around Canazei. In Pozza di Fassa you meet the route of the way there, which you follow with longing thoughts on wellness, pool and delicious, cool drinks to the Bike Hotel Croce Bianca.
