The sixth is also the last stage of the Gastein Trail. Another twenty kilometers in the legs, but this time almost all downhill. So get ready for a wonderfully relaxed walk in which the Hohe Tauern National Park is central. The first part of your walk you walk along the river, towards the power plant of Nassfeld. Via the old Nassfeldstrasse, once an important route for trade and mining, you walk towards Böckstein. Feast your eyes on the old road, which consists of many old tunnels and avalanches. Along the way you will pass the waterfalls Bärenfall, Schleierfall and Kesselfall, where the water plunges down with a lot of noise. A similar noise to that of the water that flows under you when you cross the river via the bridge. You can recognize traces of mining from the past in many places, but the First World War has also had a visible influence on the Gasteinertal. Over the Russian Bridge - which owes its name to the Russian prisoners of war who built it - you continue to the Astenalmen, one of the oldest mountain huts in the entire Gasteinertal. Make sure to stop here. Also stop at the pilgrimage church of Maria zum Guten Rat. From this point you will get a last glimpse of Böckstein before walking along the Empress Elisabeth Promenade towards Bad Gastein. Beautiful Belle Époque style houses, an impressive waterfall and naturally flanked by the steep mountain slopes in the background. No wonder this was such a favorite place for emperors and princes. Later, the Gastein Valley became especially famous for its healing thermal water. For example, you walk past the Elisabeth spring, one of the largest thermal springs in the Gasteinertal. A little later you walk on the Kaiser Wilhelm Promenade, from where you have a beautiful view of the landscape between Bad Gastein and Bad Hofgastein. After six days of hiking, the Gasteiner Höhenweg brings you step by step closer to your final destination, whether that's a relief or not. Picturesque farms, beautiful nature and an amazing landscape. Enjoy it just a little longer. Today's last highlight: the Gadauner Gorge with its waterfall and tunnels.Today's end point of the entire Gastein Trail is now in sight: Bad Hofgastein. Sit down on one of the cozy terraces in the fashionable and lively center and enjoy the past six wonderful days.
