Captain Ahab is an absolute must for every single trail fan. If you like trails with tricky challenges, Captain Ahab will not disappoint. You start at the Kane Creek Recreation parking lot. Pedal comfortably on a wide gravel road until a single track called HyMasa branches off to the right. This trail first leads you downhill into a dry stream bed and then - after a short break on a steep jeep road - further up to the entrance of Captain Ahab. What's next is kind of magical. The trail building crew around Tyson Swasey created a masterpiece with Captain Ahab in 2013. Technical challenges and fun, fast passages make this trail entertaining. If there is such a thing as a "technical flow trail," that would be the best way to describe Captain Ahab. At least if your driving skills are sufficient for the short, tricky passages. If this is not the case, you will certainly not find the trail flowing.Always pay attention to the marking on the floor. This is easy to overlook, especially in the rapid downhill sections. There are a few exposed sections at the end of the lower part of Captain Ahab, but they are short. With a smile on your face, you roll down Amasa Back Jeep-Road and Kane Springs Road back to the parking lot.
