A picturesque valley and impressive rock formations with beautiful views await you on this hike. The valley of the Schwarzen Pockau, usually just called Schwarzwassertal, is certainly one of the most beautiful low mountain range valleys in all of Germany.

The start of your hike is at the car park at Katzenstein. If you arrive by public transport, you can also start in Pobershau, two kilometers away. From there you walk through the forest to the nearby Katzenstein. The promising rock invites you to linger, but it's almost too early for a break.

Over the Arnoldweg you descend into the valley and over a bridge you get to the other bank. Now you follow the wild stream of the Schwarzen Pockau upstream. Here, steep cliffs rise again and again on both sides of the river. The Nonnenfelsen is particularly impressive and very popular with climbers. Right next to the hiking trail, the steep wall rises over 60 meters. Immediately opposite is the Teufelsmauer, which is a little less high, but no less impressive.

After a few kilometers, the landscape changes significantly. The steep slopes on both sides give way to a picturesque meadow landscape, surrounded by a thick coniferous forest. In the middle of this idyll, an old stone bridge spans the Schwarzwasser and makes for a particularly beautiful photo opportunity. Here you will always find nice places to rest.

Shortly before the border with the Czech Republic, you are going uphill, because the summit of Lauschhübel wants to be climbed. From up here you have a beautiful view of the border region and the surrounding Ore Mountains. After making an entry in the summit book, you descend again on the other side and walk in an arc back to the Schwarzwassertal.

You will now make your way back along the other side of the river. You can stop off at the Schwarzwassertal restaurant at the hiking car park near Kühnhaide. If you are out on the weekend, we advise you to leave a little space in your stomach, because from the beginning of May to the end of October you will find the small, rustic coffee Kurt stand just a few kilometers away. There you can get hot and cold drinks and delicious cakes.

You then hike back to your starting point on natural paths along the green trench. You will always catch beautiful views of the valley below.
