Enough time, a passion for history and lots of energy in your legs: you should bring all of this with you for the third stage of the Mühlenweg. There are 21 interesting and eventful kilometers ahead of you.You leave narrower behind you after a few hundred meters. The path leads you through the silence of the Wiehengebirge to the small town of Evinghausen. Then it goes over the Schmittenhöhe to the scene of the legendary Varus Battle. Make sure you plan some time for the visitor center, because in the Kalkriese Archaeological Park you can get to know the stories about the military leader Varus and the brave Arminius up close. If you want you can just take a break at the Gasthaus Varusschlacht. After the stop, the Mühlenweg leads you to the Mittelland Canal and the nearby castles Neu Barenau and Alt Barenau, which are hidden on the Bersenbrücker-Land-Weg. Although there is no mill along your stage today, the Venner Mühle is your goal. And the mill is not the only historical building that awaits you at your destination Venne. The small community has its own museum island, which also includes the mill. There you can look around at the end of your stage as you wish. You can find accommodation in Venne at the Venner Gasthaus. Coming back to Engter by bus at the end of the stage takes a little longer, but is possible: First take line 214 to Evinghausen and change there to bus 688, which will take you to Engter after a stop in Schleptrup. Via Herringhausen, first the bus route X275 and then the X276 will bring you to Osnabrück.
