The first stage starts in Jena at the University Hospital in Jena Lobeda and has a great highlight ready for the first few kilometers: the Lobdeburgruine. From the ruins you have breathtaking views down into the valley to Lobeda, Drackendorf and the Leuchtenburg. You turn right towards Johannisberg and continue walking past a Slavonic rampart. We continue towards the summer linden tree. Soon you will reach the Fürstenbrunnen, a headwaters in the Pennickental. In the shade of the surrounding trees you can sit down and take a deep breath. You have already completed half of your tour and most of the ascent here. You continue on a high path above Pennickental and reach the copper plate on narrow paths via the thieves' crib and the student slide. The descent takes place past the spectacular Teufelsloch back to Jena. But you really deserve a stop now!

Is it possible to do the tours on a mountain bike?

The paths are sometimes very narrow and go straight down. Please do not underestimate this! They are not suitable for a mountain bike tour. Come on foot and enjoy the wonderful views!

So where the middle horizontal line of the Saale actually goes, your recommended tour unfortunately does not go along. Then she would not go up to the Johannesberg and then over the plateau to the Fürstenbrunnen, but below the rock of the Johannesberg and then halfway up the north slope in the Pennikental to the Fürstenbrunnen. Unfortunately you are hiding a wonderful part with fantastic views from the visitors.

if you have mastered your mountain bike well, then you can definitely ride your recommended tour.
However, I would only do it outside of the holidays and under no circumstances on the weekend. Because if a lot of people are on the narrow path, then the constant dismounting to avoid others is no fun either
