The Tour of Flanders or “Ronde van Vlaanderen” is the most popular one-day classic in Belgium. The cobblestone passages and the numerous slipways such as the Oude Kwaremont, the Koppenberg or the Wall of Geraardsbergen are characteristic of the race.
Our "kölsche Ronde" is all about frit fat, cobblestones, slips, waffles and Belgian beer. Before the start we swap the “r” in “Bergisches Land” for an “l” and we are a little closer to our neighboring country. We start at Brusseler Platz in the Belgian Quarter and roll over to the right bank of the Rhine. At Schloss Bensberg we reach the first highlight: the paved ascent is our version of the legendary "Kappelmuur".We complete the Flemish feeling with numerous Hellingen: short, crisp climbs on roads with little traffic lead us through small Bergisch hamlets. In Grimberg we celebrate the well-known Belgian beer brand with a similar name until we reach the “Affemia” coffee stand shortly after Voiswinkel. With delicious waffles we strengthen ourselves for the finale, which takes us back to Cologne. The finish line is in front of the Maria-Eetcafé on Hans-Böckler-Platz. We finish off the round with fried delicacies and Belgian beer.
