KAT is the abbreviation for Kitzbüheler Alpen Trail. This dream long-distance hiking trail leads on the compact route in five stages and over a distance of 76 kilometers across the Kitzbühel Alps. Of course, you can also make the stages as individual day trips. A particularly beautiful stage leads from Hopfgarten over the Hohe Salve to Brixen im Thale. You will enjoy fantastic views at any time and along the way you will find several beautiful mountain inns. The hiking trails are all well developed and thus the mountain hike is considered medium difficult. If you are up or down too long, then you can easily shorten the distance slightly. Drive from Hopfgarten with the gondola to the middle station and start your hike there. At the end of the tour, you can also take the gondola down to Bressanone at the Filzalm.Your hike starts at the valley station in Hopfgarten. From there you walk steadily up the cable car. Smaller woodland and open meadows alternate each other on your way. At the middle station, the trail leads you away from the ropes of the gondola lift and you follow the signs to the Gasthof Rigi and the Hohe Salve. From the Alpengasthof Rigi, you will continue across wide meadows to the summit. At the top you can enjoy the magnificent view as well as the Salvenkirchlein (the highest pilgrimage church in Austria) and the mountain restaurant with a rotating panoramic terrace. After you've seen enough of the panorama, you walk down the Salvensee down to Filzalm. Here the path leads you into a forest and finally down to Bressanone.
