The Karnische Höhenweg is one of the most famous long-distance hiking trails in the Alps. The full trail takes 11 days on the Carnic ridge, right along the Austrian-Italian border. Since this was heavily contested in the First World War, the transnational hiking trail is now also called the Karnischer Friedensweg. Of course, you can also make individual stages of the trail. This stage takes you from the pass at the Nassfeld over the Kammweg to the Egger Alm. On the way you discover cozy huts and beautiful mountain landscapes. This section of the Karnischer Höhenweg is classified as a moderately difficult hike.In Almdorf Sonnenalpe you start your hike. At the road it goes to the border and from there you follow the trail up to the Carnic ridge. Below the summit of the Auernig you reach the Watschiger Alm. After reservation you can even get a hearty mountain climber's breakfast here. At the next Garnitzentörl you will reach the highest point of the entire hike. From there it goes comfortably over wide alpine meadows down to the Garnitzenalm. Then the trail leads you into a light mountain forest. From the bottom of the mare's saddle it's over the Italian border for a short distance. At the barn saddle you cross the border again and follow the path to the stage goal at the Egger Alm.
