The Auernig Höhenweg leads you from the Nassfeld Pass up into the mountains of the Carnic Alps. You climb the eponymous peak of the Auernig and follow the circular route through sparse mountain forests and across open alpine meadows. On the way, a break in the cozy Watschiger Alm is worthwhile, before it goes back to the starting point of the hike. The hike is classified as moderate.You start your hike at the Nassfeld Pass right on the Italian-Austrian border. From the trail parking lot you hike past the Nassfeld Memorial Chapel and up quickly. The broad but steep trail meanders through the forest. Even before you reach the Auernig, the forest becomes lighter and from the summit you finally have a fantastic view. From there you follow the route to the Garnitzenberg over to Garnitzentörl. Here you have a great view of the striking Gartnerkofel. If you like, make a short detour to the newly created panoramic terrace. Then it goes over a wide alpine meadow down to Watschiger Alm. After a hearty snack, the descent to the starting point of the hike is particularly easy for you.
