The first stage starts in tranquil Wrexen an der Diemel. Wrexen is now a district of Diemelstadt. The local stop on the Ruhr Valley Railway is between Brilon and Warburg. You are here in the far north of Hesse on the border with North Rhine-Westphalia. Here the Orpe joins the Diemel. The closest larger cities are Paderborn and Kassel. After you have reached the small town, you can start your bike tour on the Hessian long-distance cycle route R6.Following the signs of the cycle path you leave the village and cross under the motorway. A first gentle climb brings you to Rhoden. The first larger town is Bad Arolsen with its impressive baroque castle. Behind Bad Arolsen you reach the Twistesee, a reservoir popular as a destination for excursions. You can sail here, but pedal boats and paddle boats are also on the water. Motor boats, on the other hand, are not allowed. There are sandy beaches and sunbathing areas, so on a hot day you can take a longer break here. After Landau, the hardest climb of the day begins. It goes straight uphill. The slope only slowly eases when you have reached the forest. Freienhagen is more than 400 meters above sea level. The Ederseebahn cycle path finally brings you to Affoldern an der Eder. Shortly afterwards you will reach the town of Edersee at the reservoir of the same name. Here you can end an eventful day on the shore and let your gaze wander over the water.
