Stage 5 starts in Erpfingen and takes you to Melchingen, which is known across wide borders thanks to the regional theater "Lindenhof". Tip: Depending on the day of the performance, it is worth spending the night in Melchingen (+ approx. 5km from the day before) and ending the evening with a play. Immediately afterwards it goes around the 900 meter high Köbele, which is a bit higher than the neighboring Kornbühl. You leave it on the left (cycling is not allowed here anyway), but a view of the summit with its striking chapel and the three crosses is just as worthwhile, as is the view back to Melchingen and Salmendingen. The day starts promisingly and it stays that way!
Stay alert, because between Salmendingen and Ringingen you always have the opportunity to catch a view of the Albtrauf.
The small town of Burladingen is ideal for a first refreshment stop. Even if it is quiet here: From the bakery to the supermarket, you will find everything to replenish your energy supplies. With fresh power you are ready for the steep ascent out of the city and directly past the Bikepark Burladingen.Today you will pass a lot of castles and castle ruins. If you keep your eyes open, you can discover several around Burladingen.A real highlight for mountain bikers is not visible from afar: the Albstadt bike park, which is located on the edge of the beautiful Albstadt-Tailfingen district and is run by downhill mountain bike veteran Holger Blum. If you have enough power, are up for challenging descents and enough time, you should definitely go there for a few descents. In any case, the trails there fall into the “spectacular” category. The route of the Alb Crossing, on the other hand, continues in a relaxed manner towards Onstmettingen, where the outlet store of the large bike clothing manufacturer Gonso and a pump track are two worthwhile breaks for bikers before you disappear back into the forest of the Alb.The destination of the stage is the large district town of Balingen, which, in addition to the connection to the rail network, offers plenty of restaurants and accommodation. Embedded in the surrounding mountains of the Swabian Alb, a great mix of charming nature and urban bustle awaits you here - the best conditions to end the day in an entertaining way.
