Sebastian Gliem planned a hike.

For me, the fifth stage of the AhrSteig is the most beautiful of the seven sections. You can look forward to great views over the vineyards, which you hike on mostly natural paths. You start the almost 18 kilometers with an ascent up to Lindenberg. Here you can turn around again and marvel at Kreuzberg Castle from the other direction than on the previous stage. You circle around Altenburg on the hill and find yourself in a tight loop of the Ahr. The AhrSteig offers you a special highlight here - the Teufelsloch. The Teufelsloch is located in a rugged rock landscape and offers a great photo opportunity and of course a magnificent view. You continue in the direction of the Ahrschleife near Altenahr, where Are Castle towers over the city. If you feel like it, you can see the city and take a walk to the castle, both of which are worthwhile. By the way, there are several restaurants and cafes with "Ahr-Terrasse" on the Ahr, so if you want to have a cake break - you will hardly find a nicer place for it!After you've left Altenahr, the next devil is waiting for you - Teufelsley wants to be climbed! Once you have reached the top, you can hike past the Teufelsley or take the trail that provides that alpine hiking feeling in the Eifel. After the Teufelsley, the path first leads you downhill again and provides a beautiful view over Mayschoss. Along the Saffenburgruine you will soon have reached Rech and the Ahr, where you can first walk relaxed and flat along the shore. But as soon as you leave the Ahr before Dernau, it's back to "mountaineering" because the Krausberg is waiting! Via a ravine and a rocky path you reach the landmark Dernaus with a fabulous view far beyond the Ahr valley. The section down to Walporzheim is also terrific. Views, switchbacks with narrow trails, the path will definitely be fun for you. Along a narrow path, you are now approaching your destination for the day, Walporzheim, with accommodation, restaurants and good wine at the end of the "king's stage" of the AhrSteig.
