January 31, 2021
On this tour you will discover three special features of the Ore Mountains: the Schwarzwassertal, the Grünen Graben and the Nonnenfelsen. Your excursion is characterized by lush, green colors and the gentle rustling of the Schwarzen Pockau. Perhaps a cry of happiness echoes through the forest when a climber has completed a difficult route on one of the numerous rocks. The tour begins in Pobershau at the Silberscheune bus stop and initially runs upstream along the Schwarzen Pockau. The valley of the Schwarzen Pockau is usually also called the Schwarzwassertal because the water flows there as black as ink. It is a nature reserve which is one of the most beautiful of the German low mountain range valleys. Soon you will come across the Grüner Graben, a man-made depression that once served to supply water to the water wheels of the nearby mining area. The moat is about eight kilometers long and was completed in 1680. The path next to the moat, which was created for maintenance purposes, serves as a hiking trail. We continue to the Nonnenfelsen, an imposing and popular climbing rock, which is always well visited when the weather is nice. A little later you will reach the next highlight on the tour: the Teufelsmauer. Promisingly, it towers over the brook. Halfway through the walk, you will find an original resting place at a small, self-made hut with homemade cake and unmistakably delicious coffee - personally served by Kurt, the coffee man, an original from the Erzgebirge. After an extensive refreshment, it goes along the Green Trench and the Schwarzen Pockau to the great viewpoint "Katzenstein" and from there back to the starting point.
