📌 The Christmas lake is a nature reserve in Bottrop and got its name because it was created at Christmas.

ℹ Originally the Schwarzbach (there is also the Rotbach) meandered through the floodplain forest here.

➡️ Typical for our region, where mining has an impact on changes in the landscape, this lake was also created by subsidence. The subsidence has left such traces through the coal mining that the stream water of the Schwarzbach has sunk into a hollow and has accumulated more and more until a lake is finally formed. The whole thing was around Christmas 2001 ~ 2003.
