This time it doesn't go that high - you conquer 490 meters in altitude from the Saale valley to the heights of the fairy grotto town of Saalfeld. The tour starts in Saalfeld towards Obernitz, past the chocolate factory with factory outlet and the National Geotope Bohlenwand.

Now it gets tough: There follows a steep ascent to the Pfaffenberg and over the Gleitsch to the Teufelsbrücke, a natural stone arch well worth seeing. Afterwards, a great single trail leads quickly back to the valley above a quarry. It continues along the Saale over the Saale trail to Reschwitz. On the Saalfeld "Höhenweg" you continue in the direction of the garden peaks with a beautiful view of the whole of Saalfeld and further in the direction of the fairy grottoes adventure world.

Make sure you plan a little time here, because a tour of the most colorful show grotto in the world and a break with original Thuringian bratwurst are absolutely worthwhile. On a narrow dirt road you continue towards Spitzberg and enjoy fantastic views again. What follows is a long descent towards the center of Saalfeld. As the last highlight of the tour you will reach the Saalfeld Castle and the Castle Park. Along the Saale it goes back to the starting point of the tour.
