This tour attracts with regional insider tips and unique panoramas - and a crisp 1,190 meters of altitude. But as the saying goes: Nothing comes from nothing. Tight legs and great views need to be earned. From Saalfeld your route first leads via Bad Blankenburg into the Schwarzatal.
From here you continue via Greifenstein Castle, where you can pay a visit to the in-house falconry, to Großgölitz. And the next highlight is already waiting for you, because a local wood artist has built a sculpture park here that will amaze you. There is also a small distillery in town - another reason to make a stop in Großgölitz.Freshly strengthened, it goes uphill via Thälendorf in the direction of the Ehrenstein castle ruins, a former count residence of the Schwarzburger. You will reach the highest point of the tour, the large Kalkberg, a little later. During the years of German division, the National People's Army (NVA) was stationed here. After reunification, an MDR transmitter was installed instead. You get to Sundremda via forest and field paths via the Altremda reservoir. Past the Groschwitz airfield, continue towards Keilhau. From the Kesselberg it goes quickly to the Kesselwarte with a great view of Bad Blankenburg and Greifenstein Castle. On narrow forest paths and single trails you will then reach the idyllic village of Zeigerheim. The last big ascent of the tour to the nine and a half meter high Geschwister-Scholl-Turm, which was built in the style of a small knight's castle, now follows over the Zeigerheimer Berg. Single trails and gravel paths lead towards Rudolstadt. Following the Saale, you finally come back to the starting point.
