This tour combines regional cultural highlights with sporty trails in the forests around Saalfeld - at a crisp 900 meters of altitude. You start in Saalfeld and drive along the Saale in the direction of the Remschützer Sandberge, which were used to mine sand and sandstone in the 19th and 20th centuries. It continues through the Grauwinkeltal and the Uhlstädter Heide in the direction of Weißbach.

Via the Pfaffensteig, a dreamlike, one and a half kilometer long single trail, you reach the village of Weißbach in Teufelsgrund. Past the idyllic church, the Weißenburg with beer garden follows a little later - a stop is almost a must - and then the rafting museum. Find out more about the history and technology of rafting on the Saale.

On tar roads with little traffic, you continue to Partschefeld and Kleinkochberg to the Luisenturm, from which you get a unique view of the region. The next highlight of the tour is the Großkochberg moated castle and lovers' theater, which was once the country residence of Goethe's lover Frau von Stein. Through a picturesque valley, past the romantic Weitersdorf chapel, you continue over Teichweiden to Rudolstadt and from here along the Saale back to the starting point.
