On this varied tour to Heidecksburg and Marienturm you can enjoy great views of the region and do something for your calf muscles on the side. With 600 meters of altitude to be overcome, you know what you've done in the evening. Your tour starts in Saalfeld and initially runs along the beautiful Saale on the Saale cycle path towards Rudolstadt.Soon you will leave the Saale valley and drive uphill to Schaala and on to the historic fortified church to the holiday farm Domain in Groschwitz. From Groschwitz you take the "Herrenstrasse", which once connected the manorial estates of Heidecksburg and Groschwitz, towards Rudolstadt. We continue on easily navigable forest paths and single trails, which lead via Mörla to the Löwenbank - a nice place to take a break and enjoy the view of Rudolstadt. Now it goes downhill to Rudolstadt Heidecksburg. Take a little time for a tour of the baroque castle and the wonderful view over the city.Via one of the castle entrances you drive down to the market square with the town hall and through the beautiful old town streets over the Saale to Heinrich-Heine-Park. Here you can discover a historical highlight with the open-air museum "Thuringian Farmhouses" and immerse yourself in life in the Free State a hundred years ago.At the end of the tour it gets tough again, because now there is a short but steep ascent to the Marienturm. At the top you will be rewarded with a great view of Rudolstadt, the Heidecksburg and the Saale valley and enjoy Thuringian specialties in the inn. The path continues over forest roads and single trails to Schlosskulm. Now the stage is almost done: after a quick descent to Remschütz, the starting point of the tour is reached again.
