Banzer-Berg-Runde – Wandern im Obermain•Jura
Obermain•Jura planned a hike.
November 12, 2020
It starts at the hiking car park in Hausen. When you have crossed the Main and marveled at the hydropower plant, which was renovated in 2019, the path initially leads flat through the Main Valley. A narrow path meanders directly along the Main to Nedensdorf. From now on you always follow the "Keltenweg B". The most strenuous part of the circular hike follows after Nedensdorf. The ascent to Banz Monastery, a landmark of the region and the highest point of the tour, is around two kilometers long.Narrow paths lead through the forest and again and again you have great views over the Upper Main Valley. Once at the top, you can decide: for the direct descent back to Hausen or a two-kilometer loop over the Banzer Berg. If you decide to take the detour, you will be rewarded with wonderful views over the Itzgrund and the Main Valley and with a little luck you can watch the paragliders take off on the Banzer Berg.In any case, it is worthwhile to plan enough time for the activities around the monastery. The Banz Monastery Museum with its famous fossil collection, the forest climbing garden with beer garden, the Klosterschänke or, of course, the Banz Monastery itself invite you to visit. You can find more information here: obermain-jura.de/de/kulturregion./wahrzeichen/kloster-banz. Please note: the sometimes steep descent back to Hausen can be slippery in wet weather. Therefore it is advisable to pay attention to sturdy shoes!
