Understand forestAisles on forest slopes, fords through rivers: Hike through the cultural landscape in the Franconian Forest Nature Park and read the traces of its history! How did people live from and with the forest? Understanding grows step by step: people change their environment and the environment changes people.Black gold - the miners in the Haßlachtal dug for hard coal for 400 years. From 1756 onwards, they excavated the forest here in Stockheim and worked their way up to 320 meters deep into the ground. Although the last coal mine, "St. Katharina", was shut down in 1968, the mining industry has left unmistakable traces.Follow us on the path "Im Kohlenwald", which mostly runs on the mining adventure trail "Dachsbau", which is equipped with clear information boards. There are coal seams pending above ground to be discovered, forest slopes furrowed by search trenches and the craters of shaft penguins that suddenly appear: Each of these collapse funnels bears witness to the everyday dangers of mining! In general: It was often a miserable life here. Strikes are reported, because the miners rightly did not understand why they earned 85 pfennigs per shift, while their colleagues in the Ruhr area brought home a total of 2 marks for it. Between 1877 and 1930 the working situation improved: In addition to the 600 miners, 400 workers were now needed for the champagne bottle factory in Stockheim. That raised the wages of the buddies, but they didn't get rich. It just came to life.
