Mary Moncorgé's second tour is not exactly an everyday weekend excursion - it is her training program for the Transvésubienne race. 85 kilometers and 3,500 vertical meters, almost the entire route of narrow, steep single trails - that needs to be properly prepared. And so she put together a route at home that combines all facets of the race: sweaty climbs, narrow single trails over scree and boulders and of course incredibly fast, steep descents that would look good in an enduro race. So all in all a tour for experienced mountain bikers who want to take their skills to the next level. From Sospel there is a short walk over narrow streets, then the route turns onto increasingly steep serpentines. Sometimes on old asphalt, sometimes on loose gravel, you gain height before you start your first single trail. The view is fantastic high above the valley, but thick roots and gravel the size of a fist don't leave you much time to enjoy the view.At the highest point of the tour you treat yourself to a short break before you head into the forest and briskly downhill. Fast, curvy trails bring you back towards the valley. Sometimes more of a rocky hiking trail than a MTB trail, the route demands all your skills on the last third of the tour. After the final descent on rooty forest trails, the route spits you out right at the Peille train station - and after you've finished your work, you let your bike roll out easily.
