Wildromantische Rundtour durch das Warnow-Durchbruchstal – Winterwandern in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
Comments
The short but impressive round trip takes you into the wild and romantic breakthrough valley of the Warnow. On natural, narrow paths you will discover rare animal and plant species in the largest breakthrough valley in northern Germany. If you want to travel by public transport, the 849 on-call bus will bring you from the Sternberger ZOB to the starting point of the tour in Groß Görnau. You can find more information about the on-call buses here: vlp-lup.de. Alternatively, you can arrive by car and park it in the free hiking car park at the “Warnow Mildenitz Durchbruchstal” nature reserve. Before you dive into the pristine Warnow area, you can find out more about this special landscape from an information board. Then a path takes you down to the Warnow and along the shore to a pretty wooden bridge. You climb over a narrow path to the remains of a hilltop castle that is over 1,000 years old. Do not be surprised that you do not find stone walls or ruins of a castle in the general sense. Rather, the Slavic castles consisted of mighty ramparts and steep banks. You follow the castle wall up to 30 meters above the Warnow. After you have crossed a sheep paddock, you accompany the river over wild wet and natural meadows back into the forest. A small rest area invites you to linger before heading back on the other bank of the river.Scree, rocks and a narrow valley ensure that the Warnow has a wild-water-like character here. With a bit of luck, on the last section of the tour you will spot beavers or shimmering kingfishers that feel at home on the only white water river in northern Germany. Our tip: After the hike, you can visit the archaeological open-air museum in Groß Raden. A Slavic village was faithfully recreated there - a great experience not only for children. You can find all the information here: auf-nach-mv.de/reiseziel/a-archaeologisches-freilichtmuseum.
