Today we continued with the exploration of the Emsland. The goal was the Hammer Sand forest area and the former Koppelwiesen nature reserve behind it. Both the current and the former Hünenweg run through this nature reserve. The former Hünenweg is no longer accessible and we had to turn around.
Is the Hünenweonly intended for tall, broad-shouldered men ?? At 1.62 I feel slightly discriminated against .... 😭The mushroom is awesome. And then alone on the wide hallway.
Yes, Lille, that's exactly why the Hünenweg is calledThanks for this funny comment. In reality, the route was named because of the large stone graves (giant beds) along the way.
I am happy about that. So I could hike here too. 😭🤭😅
Where's the hammer sand 😉. Is that what the area is called. Or is there really the best sand 😃? Well, Hühnenweg fits 😉. Nicely photographed. And somehow the weather looks better for everyone else than for me. I only had very few breaks in the rain 😕.
Thanks Jenny! The Hammer Sand is a wooded dune area and is located between Hamm / Bückelte and Haselünne. It only drizzled slightly on our tour, but the weather app had incorrectly shown rain since 9 a.m.
Incidentally, the Hünenweg has a length of 150 km and goes from Osnabrück to Meppen. An extension to Groningen is planned.
Very nice hike and the very best photos - it can be so beautiful in the Emsland!

Thank you WaldNat! There are indeed such beautiful corners of the Emsland that many native Emslanders have never seen before.
