On the fourth stage of the Jura-Höhenweg you hike for almost 21 kilometers from Hauenstein to Balsthal. The varied route leads you through the typical beech forests of the Jura and to scenic rest areas. There is also a historical excursion and a traditional stop. Et voilà - an eventful day of hiking is ready. From Hauenstein it first goes uphill through the forest for a while. Every now and then the trees open up and offer you a beautiful view over the Central Plateau and, with good visibility, as far as the Alps. After almost five kilometers you will pass the remains of the Hauenstein Fortification, a fortress that was built by the Swiss during World War I to protect against an attack from the northwest. In a nice up and down you hike through the idyllic forests and you will soon reach the Tiefmatt Restaurant. You can take a break in the traditional inn - in the garden you can enjoy a particularly good view. With renewed energy, you master the short and crisp ascent to the Roggenflue with your left hand. From the vantage point there, you can see the entire Swiss plateau up to the highest peaks in the Swiss Jura.On the last piece you then only walk downhill to your stage destination Balsthal, where you will find several accommodations and a train station.
