Several hiking trails lead to the Berchtesgadener Hochthron, the classic ascent is on the Stöhrweg from Berchtesgaden. With a climb of over 1,300 meters you should have good condition, otherwise the mountain trail is good to commit. The tour starts in Berchtesgaden and you wander past the nature park Aschauerweiher over wide meadows. So far, the path is flat, from here it rises steadily. First, the Stöhrweg winds through a vast forest and leads you under the peaks of Small and Big Rough Head over.Shortly thereafter, you will reach the tree line and continue climbing below the steep slopes with great views. Below the summit ridge, steep serpentines await you before you reach the Stöhrhaus. From there it is still about 30 minutes walk to the Berchtesgadener Hochthron.Afterwards you can descend on the same route or take the way down to Winkl or Hintergern. From Winkl you can take bus 841 back to Berchtesgaden and in Hintergern you can jump on bus 837.The tour is also suitable as an entry or conclusion of a multi-day tour of the Untersberg massif. After a night in the Stöhrhaus, you can continue the next day on the east ridge of the Untersberg to Geiereck. There the cable car takes you down to St. Leonhard or you spend one more night in the Zeppezauerhaus.
