Hiking Highlight (Segment)
Grödig bei Salzburg planned a hike.
February 27, 2018
The climb with the detour to the Almbachklamm is indeed the steepest, but also the most varied summit tour to the Berchtesgadener Hochthron. The starting point can be reached by car or by bus 840 from Berchtesgaden or Grödig. You start at the hiking car park Almbachklamm and then wander into the impressive, narrow gorge. From the gorge you climb a little way to the picturesque church of Maria Ettenberg. Here you have a particularly great view of the eastern wall of the Untersberg massif. From there it goes first over alpine meadows and then through a mountain forest steadily upwards. From the tree line, the trail snakes up in serpentines on the slope. You walk along the cliff walls and then hit the Stöhrweg, which you follow to the Stöhrhaus and on to the summit. After a well-deserved rest at the Stöhrhaus, you can descend in the same direction. From the church on the Ettenberg you then hike over the Hammerstielweg to the starting point, so you save the route through the Almbachklamm. Alternatively, you can also go down to Winkl or down the Stöhrweg to Berchtesgaden. From there you can reach the starting point by bus.If you are planning a multi-day hike, you can spend the night in the Stöhrhaus and continue your hike the next day.
