On my second adventure in Trentino, I get on my mountain bike for a lap around the Castellaz. In the nature reserve “Parco Naturale Paneveggio Pale di San Martino” I ride on mostly well passable hiking trails through the unique Val Venegia. There are said to be over 500 different types of plants. But even if you let your eyes wander OVER the landscape, you can enjoy unique mountain panoramas. The starting point for the tour is a small parking lot along Strada Provinciale 81, which leads through the nature reserve. From here it goes in an easterly direction directly through the Val Venegia. Roughly, the path here follows the stream of the Torrente Travignolo, which becomes narrower with increasing height before it disappears completely into the rock.Over several serpentines it goes up to the refuge Baita Segantini, which offers much more than a simple shelter. Here you can eat, drink, sleep if necessary and, above all, enjoy the wonderful view of the Pala group, which has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Dolomites since 2009.As if that weren't enough of a good thing, the rest of the way back to the parking lot is all downhill. Passing the Capanna Cervino hut, which once again invites you to enjoy delicious Trentino cuisine, there is pure downhill fun! Here and there you have to watch out for hikers, but the area is quite clear so that you can see it from afar. It's almost six kilometers downhill before you get back to the parking lot. Especially in the area of the Capanna Cervino hut, if you have advanced riding technique, you can switch to a few trails to the left of the route to bring some variety to the descent. At the end of the tour, you have to be particularly careful on a section about one kilometer long, because cycling is not officially allowed on the narrow mountain path.
