This hike explores the picturesque town of Bakewell — home of the world-famous Bakewell Pudding — and the quaint Peak District countryside it nestles within.

It is possible to walk this 4.2-mile (6.8-km) route in under two hours. However, if you want to savour the sights and flavours, you might need a little more time. Whilst there is a little bit of climbing, it is all fairly leisurely.

From Barn Farm Camping, it is a 15-minute drive to Bakewell and there is ample parking where the route begins. You start by crossing the ‘Love Lock’ bridge and hiking up the River Wye to the market town's iconic Grade I-listed five-arched bridge.

You join the Monsal Trail, a former railway line and now traffic-free route that winds through some of the Peak District's most spectacular limestone dales, and continue to Hassop Station, a great place to stop for coffee and cake.

After a gentle walk through farmland back to Bakewell, you pass one of the finest medieval churches in England, All Saints, and make a whistle-stop at the Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop, where you can sample the town’s famous dish from the place where it was invented.
