At the Walpurgis Night, the witches saddle their brooms and ride with their pitchfork and sacrificial animal to their dance ground, where they celebrate their wedding with the bubbling mood of the devil. Thale is, so to speak, the epicenter of mystical transmissions from the gruesome hustle and bustle of the witches, and one or another folk festival revolves around this theme. You can not just ride on the broom - it's worth it to saddle your mountain bike: Thale is one of the trail hotspots in the Harz mountains. The Bodetal is considered the "ruggedest rock valley north of the Alps". And it is one of the highlights of this tour, which, however, beforehand touches the historic old town of Blankenburg, the city that is considered the geographical center of the district of Harz and is ideally suited for a short break. Freshly strengthened, a crisp climb awaits you up to the Rappbodetalsperre and then the varied ups and downs through the beautiful Bodetal. The absolute highlight of the tour is the Rosstrappe downhill at the very end. To achieve that, it goes once upright rocky - short and painless and it is no shame, if you have to go down for a short time. The reward follows. The Rosstrappen Downhill is traditionally part of the German Downhill Cup and a real racetrack. The course is open all year round and thanks to the chairlift can also be used for a longer downhill training session. Today you use it as a reward for a challenging tour that you mastered with flying colors. The final downhill is technically quite demanding, however, all jumps and drops are reversible, so that less savvy drivers will arrive below. At the end it gets powerfully steep - brake on and enjoy!
