The Olpererhütte in Zamser Grund above the Schlegeisspeichers shares the big name with its rocky "patron saint", the Olperer. It is the main summit of the Tuxer ridge, its striking appearance is characterized by the pyramid-shaped summit structure. It has always been a magnet for ambitious mountaineers who need accommodation on their tours. The refuge was built in 1881 by the former "Section Prague" of the German-Austrian Alpine Club.Due to the high visitor interest, the premises were soon no longer sufficient, they were renovated several times and demolished in 2006 because of the critical building fabric and rebuilt. The Olpererhütte is located on the Berliner Höhenweg, the "Peter-Habeler-Runde" and the "Traumpfad München - Venedig" and is therefore visited annually by numerous hikers.Your ascent to the hut starts at the impressive Schlegeisspeicher. You can reach the reservoir by car or by bus from Mayrhofen in the Zillertal. The way up is short and crisp and therefore also perfect as a day trip. But if you have gotten a place to sleep on the hut, you should definitely join a summit climb. From the hut, the route takes you on challenging mountain tours up to the Olperer, the Fussstein, the Schrammacher and the frozen-wall peaks. In addition, you can reach many other huts from here, which are also located on the mountain trails of the Tux Alps.
