Ulm, beautifully situated on the banks of the Danube, as a former imperial city, marks the beginning of the exciting circuit on the Upper Swabian Allgäu cycle path. From the train station of the university town you first drive through the impressive center: There you can climb the highest church tower in the world and cycle through the picturesque fishing district. Then it goes to the Danube and further south along the river Iller. The bike route is increasing in height and a few kilometers further you can see Laupheim. The nucleus of the city was the Großlaupheim Palace, which today houses the cultural center and the museum for the history of Christians and Jews. The ideally developed cycle path then climbs leisurely up the Rottum valley. On both sides, the dark green forest pushes towards the river valley. In between there are always large orchards and quiet villages such as Mietingen, Schönebürg or Reinstetten.Soon a sublime monastery heralds the first stage destination Ochsenhausen. The former Benedictine imperial abbey was built between 1615 and 1647 based on the Jesuit model and decorated with lavish Baroque décor at the beginning of the 18th century. The famous Gabler organ, the monastery museum, the observatory and the library room are real gems. The Ringhotel Mohren is particularly bike-friendly.You can find more information about the first stage at
