The Rhenish donkey is one of the oldest railway tracks in the Ruhr area. Already in the 1980s, the recultivation of the old railway line was started, which only really got going again since 2012. This results in very different states of the bike path. From asphalted to expediently graveled everything is there, but the way is consistently passable. The Rhenish donkey starts in Bochum Langendreer and ends near the Dortmund University in Dortmund Löttringhausen. The route is consistently flat and quiet. Real highlights along the route you will search in vain. But maybe that's just your highlight? At any rate, you can not come more quietly from Bochum to Dortmund.By the way: We allowed ourselves to design an alternative ending of the Rhenish donkey in this tour. The original route spits you out of the old Löttringhausen train station, where you'll probably wonder what you're supposed to do there. Therefore, we have extended the track a bit, show you the campus and an exceptional bridge over the A40, which shines in rainbow colors at night. On quiet roads and paths as you can reach the Dortmund Central Station, which is much better suited as a starting point for a bike ride.

Those who feel as lost on the other side in Langendreer behind the former Opel plant as on the old Löttringhauser train station, which finds on the Oberststraße to the south / southwest to the main street, where after a few hundred meters then the S-Bahn station Langendreer can be found ,Those who prefer to leave directly on the Löttringhauser side by public transport can leave the Rhenish donkey northwards before the A45 at Silberknapp. From here it goes on the Kruckeler road only to the west, then north past the substation to the station Kruckel. Here, the S5 runs between Dortmund-Hbf and Hagen-Hbf.The alternative end to the Dortmunder-Hbf leads gradually into the dense inner-city metropolitan traffic, which continues to increase in the district of Hombruch from the Terwestenstraße / Großholthauser road suburb typical. From the end of the foot and cycle path on Rüpingsbach comes from the Baroper road only limited cycling fun.

You do not necessarily through the city after DO Hbf, Den Rüpingsbach continue downhill, then parallel to the S5 railway line, under the Schnetker bridge through with beautiful allotments, finally at the Emscher to S-Bf. Dortmund-Dorstfeld with S1 (Dortmund - Essen-Solingen), S2 (Dortmund - Herne etc.) S4 (Unna - Lütgendortmund).
