Leaving Sarnthein behind us, we follow the road to Rungg and from there to the Sarner ski hut. This hut is not to be confused with the distinctive fence made of old skis and is a great sight - something different. We follow the gravel road to the Auener Alm. The way there is a little steeper, but always mobile. The steepest part for hikers is bypassed on a flatter section. So we have no problems getting to the Alm.There you can refill drinking water, which is absolutely needed for the next few kilometers. From the Auener Jöchl it is not far to the Stuanerne Mandln. This place has something special that everyone should experience for themselves. There are countless small towers made of stacked stones, the so-called Stuanerne Mandln. After we have enjoyed the view and this special place, we go over the Kreuzjoch to the Kesselberg. There is a ski area here and the ascent to the hut of the same name is very steep - it leads up over the ski slope. The exhausting ascent is worth it. A very nice, if not too long, descent on a trail is waiting. Then this turns into a forest road and brings us back into the valley.Although there was already 1,600 m up to this point, the day goes on. The Penser yoke is still waiting for us. The first 20km are basically flat, but then it gets steep. With a constant gradient of over 10%, it goes towards the yoke for 10km. If you like to challenge yourself, you've come to the right place. The descent into Wipptal and Sterzing is long, the road is in good condition and it gets noticeably warmer the deeper we get into the valley. The tour can easily be split over two days.
