A few days ago I was in the area of the former inner-German border. About 30 years ago this tour would not have been possible. It started from Heldra, a district of the city of Wanfried in Hesse. At this point the hero stone was still hiding in a cloud of fog. Through the Werraaue, the premium route P6 first crossed the former border barrier to the other side of the Werra to Thuringia. We leave the Werraaue and after a small section of forest we reach the Kolonnenweg with a beautiful view of Schnellmannshausen. Now the challenging ascent to the Heldrastein, accompanied by limestone cliffs, follows. Shortly before reaching the same there is the opportunity to make a detour to the Hüneburg viewpoint. When you arrive at the Heldrastein, you have the opportunity to take a break, climb the tower of the German Unity with its 165 steps and enjoy the beautiful view of the Werra Valley. Not far from the Heldrastein is the Dreiherrenstein, an old boundary stone. Here, too, you have a beautiful view of the surrounding area. Now it goes a longer forest section down to Ramsbach and then on to Großburschla. After crossing the Werra again, it goes through the Werraaue back to Heldra.
