Rundtour 06: Über Meura und den Leipziger Turm – Feen-Bike-Paradies Saalfeld
Comments
On this round tour you drive on an impressive route through the mountains and valleys around the Saalfelder Höhe with fantastic views of the Leibis-Lichte dam, the Thuringian slate mountains and the Franconian Forest. After the start of the tour and leaving the Saalfeld urban area near Garnsdorf, the tour begins with an atmospheric start on beautiful forest paths through the Wittmannsgereuther valley. You reach the Saalfelder Höhe after a crisp gravel ramp near Witzendorf. You have to be very attentive on the fast descent so that you do not miss the branch to the right into the valley of the Weißen Sorbitz. You have quickly reached the idyllic Döschnitz and continue on a beautiful forest path to Rohrbach. This is where the ascent through the Kalte Rinne to the Meuraer Heide begins. The wide, open areas are pastureland for the Haflinger stud Meura. A rest is recommended there. We continue on a beautiful section of the trail to the Schneiderfelsen, one of the most beautiful viewpoints of the Leibis-Lichte dam.At the Meurasteinen the ascent through the wild and romantic Suhl valley to the Leipzig tower follows. There is again a resting place with a dream panorama of the Thuringian Slate Mountains and the Franconian Forest. The route takes you back to Saalfeld on partly winding paths and over the wide areas of the Saalfelder Höhe to Eyba.If the weather is right, a rest at the legendary restaurant “Zum Egon” is a good idea before you start the final descent back to Saalfeld. This is a panoramic and varied mix of gravel slopes and trail sections.Near the Hotel Bergfried you pass the Fuchsturm with its view of the plank walls that tower over the Saale near Obernitz. One last downhill trail and you have already arrived at the caravan parking lot. Back to the starting point of the tour at the Carl Zeiss Bridge, it goes along the Saale on the Saale Cycle Path, seasoned with short trails.
