August 11, 2020
The European Tulip Tree and Co. cultural route takes you over nine exciting kilometers deep into the Strietwald of Aschaffenburg. In addition to wonderfully fragrant leaves and needles, you will find exotic tree species, a volcanic vent and some historical highlights. It starts at the parking lot of the Aschaffenburger Nordfriedhof. A soft forest path leads you first to the Jahnfelsen. Even if you haven't gone far, it is worth taking a short break at the cozy picnic bench right next to the gymnastics father's moss-covered rock.Less than a kilometer further you are standing at the Teufelsmauer, where, according to legend, Müller Menze called the person who destroyed his mill. You cross the quietly babbling Steinbach and walk in an arc to the Teschenhöhle, the only volcanic hole in the Spessart. Basalt used to be mined here.Your next stop are the tulip trees. The tree species originates from eastern America and has been growing in Europe for around 300 years. You can recognize them by their unique leaf shape. From here it's not far back to the starting point of the tour.
