Magnificent buildings, enchanted church ruins and romantic half-timbered houses make this beautiful walk a historical delight. You start at the collegiate church of St. Peter and Alexander, the oldest church in Aschaffenburg. The monastery was founded in 950, the church itself built around 25 years later. You walk through the Sandgasse towards Schöntal. Here at the park entrance you are welcomed by the ruins of an old church that burned down in 1552. You take a short lap through the park with its picturesque magnolia grove and then hike through the green to the magnificent Johannisburg Castle.According to records, the first buildings were built in the 10th century. Three centuries later a chapel was built and another century later it was converted into a castle. A tour of the walls is the perfect way to end the historical tour.
